When Dermalogica releases a new product into the skin care market it always creates huge excitement and buzz within the Dermalogica “tribe”. The Prodermal team were no exception at the launch of the new Phyto Replenish Oil!
Emma Hobson, Education Manager for Australia, Asia and New Zealand recently launched the Phyto Replenish Oil to business owners and skin therapists Australia wide and explained that when Dermalogica created this new product they delved deep into the science behind the barrier lipids of the skin, discovering how to optimise their functionality.
Emma explained that this new next generation daily treatment oil, uses the best of nature and its many phytoactives to help to solve dryness and dehydration while reinforcing the skins natural protective function.
Did you know that plants possess natural phytoactives that have the ability to impact the structure and health of our skin? For example, dry and/or dehydrated skin lack natural oils to maintain optimal skin health and the use of these phytoactives can act as powerful substitutes for this skin type and condition. Natural oils (or lipids) play a critical role in maintaining skin health and appearance by managing hydration and moisture levels in the skin and when depleted trans epidermal water loss can occur and lead to dehydration. When you suffer from dehydration and dryness, your skin becomes uncomfortable and becomes more vulnerable to sensitivity and premature signs of ageing.
Other factors that can impair and deplete the delicate balance of our skin are
seasonal changes, diet, over use of exfoliants and ingredients in skin products
like alcohol and harsh surfactants as well as some hydroxy acids which leave
the skin feeling tight and taut.
Ageing of course has a big impact on the skin. When we age, lipid depletion occurs naturally and restoration and recovery of the barrier lipid varies. In our younger years, barrier lipids are restored generally within 12 hours with full recovery by three days but as we age this recovery can take more than a week and depending on the condition of the skin can lead to dehydration and sensitisation and ultimately aging.
The news is not good when it comes to having a compromised lipid barrier and so it is important to replenish lost lipids in order to maintain healthy skin. This is where Dermalogica steps in with the new Phyto Replenish Oil.
Phyto Replenish Oil targets normal to dry skin conditions by working in three phases; strengthening, hydrating and shielding.
Phase one strengthens the skins barrier with the use of phytoactives from Camelia and Tamaru oils. Camelia Oil is a rich source of fatty acids, is calming and soothing and provides excellent anti-oxidant properties. Tamaru oil is known for its powerful skin regenerating properties and has been used for centuries to combat a wide range of skin issues.
Phase two works on hydrating the skin with an essential oil blend of Orchid Flower and Chia Seed Oil, known for its anti-inflammatory and moisturising properties and phase three helps to shield the skin with a blend of Sunflower, Rice Bran and Rosemary to protect against free radical damage, a major cause of skin aging.
Emma also explained that this phytolipid complex and its supporting ingredients reinforce the skins barrier lipid layer, promotes moisturisation and replaces lipids and perhaps one of the first benefits you will see after the product is introduced to the skin is a dewy and luminious finish.
What’s the best way to introduce the Phyto Replenish Oil into your regime? Use daily after cleansing by applying 4 – 6 drops and pressing into the skin. You can also mix it with your Dermalogica moisturiser and the hot tip is that many make-up artists have been getting a fresh and dewy finish to make up by it mixing it with primers and foundations.
